Artist's Statement

Having been trained as a biologist before becoming a photographer, I have always been intrigued and enthralled by the beauty and precision of the natural world. In living organisms I have found that form and function interact wondrously to achieve a fundamental purpose, the replication and preservation of species.

The stunning structures of fruits and flowers demonstrate for me an elegant and mysterious partnership of form with function. In observing nature as a biologist, I am continuously awed by the marvelous designs revealed to me. As a photographer, my goal is to convey to the viewer some of the magnificence that passes before me.

As an artist, I arrange natural forms and light them to emphasize many of nature's striking features. I present my limited-editioned photographs in a variety formats and printing techniques as I attempt to reveal the vibrancy and subtlety of nature.
